The tattoo on her arm appears to say "It's hard to light a candle, easy to curse the dark instead". It's a variation on a common saying, "It's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness", whose origins are unclear. (It's been ascribed to Confucius, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and Eleanor Roosevelt, among others, but no citations seem to have turned up.) I like the old version, but I wouldn't say that to somebody who has it permanently inked on them.
